Dana

Practise Generosity. Cultivate Compassion.

修习布施,培育慈悲

Every act of giving begins with a compassionate heart.

Whether you offer your time, your skills or material support, every act of generosity helps create a place where people can learn, practise Buddhism and find peace.

In giving, we not only support others—we also cultivate kindness, gratitude and a more open heart within ourselves.

What is Dana?

Dana is the Buddhist practice of generosity.

It is one of the most fundamental teachings of Buddhism and often the first step on the path of practice. Dana is not measured by the size of the offering, but by the sincerity and compassion behind it. Find out more about Dana practise in the article — Understanding Dana.

Whether we give our time, our skills, or material support, every act of generosity benefits both the giver and the receiver.

Why Buddhists Practise Dana

Through the practice of generosity, we gradually learn to:

  • Cultivate kindness and compassion
  • Develop gratitude and humility
  • Let go of attachment and self-centredness
  • Support the continuation of the Buddha's teachings
  • Create opportunities for others to learn and practise

The greatest gift is not how much we give, but the heart with which we give.
